Radiotherapy
Radiotherapy clinic at the University clinics in Freiburg and Heidelberg is one of the high ranking clinics with contemporary medical equipment in Germany. The clinics in addition to the last generation radiological machines with the on-board computer tomographs are equipped with the advanced brachytherapeutic equipment used for radioactive agent delivery directly into the tumor.
The clinic has a considerable experience in delivering a high precision therapy (stereotactic radiotherapy, radiosurgery and radiotherapy under visual control) and intensity modulated beam therapy (IMRT). The linear accelerator True Beam STX Novalis Radiosurgery is used to perform a high precision radiation of tumors of less than 1 cm in size. The system IGRT ExacTrac continuously monitors patient’s and tumor’s movements. Due to that radiation exposure to healthy tissues is reduced. The radiation capacity of the medical equipment is twice higher than in previous generation analogues. That allows limiting the treatment cycle to only a few sessions. The therapy is conducted on the outpatient basis. The new equipment is particularly effective in the treatment of complex brain, spine, lung, liver, pancreas and prostate gland tumors.
